Tall Glass Door Cabinet

Tall Glass Cabinet Door

Nothing beats the elegance of a tall cabinet. The well-crafted design and beautiful wood grain patterns can make any room look stylish and posh. However, because it is made of wood, it can warp and twist. Once this happens, they most likely bang when closed. While stiffeners and catches can be added inside the door, this remedy can make the opening of the door difficult. For tall cabinets, a tall glass cabinet door is the answer.

A glass cabinet door is a refreshing alternative to the dull, monotonous look of hardwood doors. While most people are discouraged from using it, nevertheless the fixture is an interesting piece that can light up any room, most specially those rooms with high ceilings or those which look dark and gloomy. It can also make the room appear larger by increasing natural lighting. Because light can pass through the glass, it is the perfect spot to display collectibles or china. If the cabinet is used to store books and CDs or DVDs, the transparent door allows the owner easy access to his collection without having to worry about dust build-up that usually occurs in open shelves.

The most common glass used for cabinet doors is the clear type. Because it has no texture or pattern, this is the ideal choice if you have collections or memorabilia that you want to flaunt. But since it is transparent, it is not recommended for those who worry about clutter, dust or fingerprints. It is imperative that the stuff inside the cabinet be arranged well, and that the cabinets be cleaned regularly.

Because of these problems, other glass types are slowly gaining popularity. One of them is art glass. This type is common in modern homes as it is used to give color and character to the home.

There are many types of art glass. The most practical kind is frosted glass. This kind contains fine sand to give the glass some texture and make it less transparent. There is also what you call as ribbed glass, which may go in different directions such as horizontal, vertical or diagonal. This still shows the colors inside the cabinet but hides the clutter.

Another kind is stained glass. These contain colorful inserts that were carefully hand-crafted by artists. If you are artistic yourself, or if you have patterns or pictures that you like to display, inserts can be made in between the layers of glass.

Lighting can be installed to help provide character to your tall cabinet. Also, be mindful of the colors of the cabinet interior, as this can also be seen.

To complete the look, choose knobs or pulls that would match with your glass door. Or, you may not install knobs or pulls. Some modern cabinets have latches that open or close the door just by slowly pushing it. This would make the cabinet look sleek and neat.

With the many available glass cabinet doors in the market today, it is not rare to find the one that would suit you and your cabinet needs. Scout for more designs and options that you can choose from before you decide on purchasing anything. You can even have a glassmaker create a door according to your specifications. So what are you waiting for? Remove those old boring doors from your tall cabinets and install a tall glass cabinet door now!
