How To Make Cabinet Doors With Fabric
How To Make Cabinet Doors With Fabric

Most people, after remodeling their houses, find it easy to throw away some old things. But that's a pity because usually, these items can still be made into other nice things. Say for example, cabinets that were removed due to extreme wear of the doors. With some creativity and a bit of do-it-yourself skills, you could easily furnish new fabric doors for your old cabinets. However, the option of installing fabric doors into the cabinet is not only good for those that are worn enough that no one would no longer bother to furnish wood cabinet doors. Fabric doors are actually as presentable as the conventional ones. But only, their display has some limitations. Nonetheless, you can make your own cabinet which replaces wooden doors with fabric panels. For an easy start, you could choose either plywood or Medium-Density Fireboards or MDF. This material is made from softwood fibers that were split into several pieces and were randomly assembled and pressed. This process eliminates the grains of the material to achieve fair consistency throughout the wood. Both materials must be rounded up in the edge to make the process a lot easier. Go for the material that lies flat on the ground so as to see the evenness of the surface. Any inconsistency in the surface might affect the outcome of the cabinet. Critical to making cabinet doors with fabric is the door frame. Accurate measurement must be obtained so as to actually get the desired amount of fabric to be used. The frame face is also the basis as to the size and dimensions of the cabinet fabric doors. If you are using an old cabinet however, you can measure the cabinet frame or the actual door to be replaced and use the measurements as the basis for the length and height of the fabric that you would prepare. While measuring, you should add at least 2 inches allowance for both the height and the width so that the necessary attachments could be done later. You must also consider the total measurement across the door frame, the designs and alterations you make. The final measurements will be used for your template. Any fabric can be used as cabinet doors so long as these are strong enough to secure that they would last long. If you are a bit unsure of the exact measurements of the fabric to use, it is best to ask the salesperson for more accurate measurements. When shopping for fabrics, it is usually a good idea to bring with you your template or the diagram of your cabinet so that the salesperson could come up with a more accurate idea of how much fabric to give you. Also, prepare all the necessary materials you would be needing like the small curtain rods and the fasteners. Before installing the fabric as doors to your cabinet, you must first wash them to address the anticipated shrinking. After which, hem the two sides of the fabric door with a half inch allowance. Then, hem the top and bottom sides with 1 inch allowance to make room for the small curtain rod. When you're done with the fabric doors, you now want to attach them to their respective cabinets. Drill the sides of the cabinet where you would be hanging the curtain rod. Feed the cloth into the rod and hang the cabinet fabric door. To use, just pull the fabric door to one side.
